It has now been a year since the launch of this website and it has managed to gather so much useful content such as custom roms, kernels, tutorials, applications and all other sorts of goodies.

As you're all probably aware already, this is the only website that gathers all sorts of information for the Galaxy S4 mini into one place including support when you have questions. In other words, we save you time from Google-ing all day looking for roms, kernels, tutorials and apps. And of course, all of this wouldn't have been possible if it wasn't for the talented developers at xda forums.

Galaxy S5 Boot Animation for Galaxy S4 mini

Samsung has done it once again with their lovely new TouchWiz UI look and boot animation included in their new flagship phone, the Galaxy S5. While there is still no complete S5 theme available for our Galaxy S4 mini, you can still somewhat transform it to look like one from a first look by setting the homescreen and lockscreen wallpapers, push the ported Galaxy S5 launcher into your system and some other things.

But before we get onto those things, let us first take a look at the S5 boot animation. This boot animation was ported by xda member fahadali2315 who originally posted this at the Note 3 boards but works perfectly on our Galaxy S4 mini.

Another good thing I would like to mention is that you do not need to flash the custom boot animation enabler and all that stuff as this package contains the raw .qmg files including the sound files, no bootanimation.zip split into png frames.

Download S5 Boot Animation - Click here.

Installation:

  1. Download the s5_bootanimation.zip file to your sdcard.
  2. Power off your phone and boot into Recovery mode by holding Volume up + Home + Power buttons.
  3. Choose install zip.
  4. Choose choose zip from external sdcard or /storage/sdcard/1 (option varies in different recoveries).
  5. Choose the s5_bootanimation.zip file.
  6. Choose Yes to confirm when asked.
  7. After the installation is complete, go back and choose reboot system now.
  8. Enjoy your Galaxy S5 boot animation.
If you are having a hard time following the text instructions, you may watch the demo video below that shows you how to flash this including a preview of the new animation at the end.

With the recent introduction of Android 4.4 KitKat to our S4 mini, we got the chance to try out some of the Galaxy S5's stock applications such as the launcher, weather widget, calculator, music player and a few others.

If you really like the Galaxy S5 apps' UI but cannot afford to buy the actual device, you can make your Galaxy S4 mini partially look like one. This post is the second part of the "S5 transformation" series that you are about to see published in the upcoming days. We already have a beautiful S5 boot animation available for our phone and now its time we get the S5's music player.

Download Galaxy S5 Music Player - Click here.

Installation:

  1. Download the music player zip file to your sd card.
  2. Power off your phone and boot into Recovery mode.
  3. Choose install zip.
  4. Choose choose zip from external sdcard (choose zip from /storage/sdcard1/ in newer CWM Recovery versions).
  5. Choose the music player zip file
  6. Choose Yes to confirm when asked
  7. After the installation is complete, go back and choose reboot system now.

If you are getting the error message "Unfortunately, the process android.process.media has stopped." after rebooting, consider doing a data wipe/factory reset.

A huge thanks goes to xda member S.M.A.G who has recently shared this music player along with a bunch of other Galaxy S5 stock applications that are claimed to work on the Galaxy S4 mini. Stay tuned for more S5 goodies as coming up next is a Galaxy S5 notification screen look-a-like for your KitKat firmware.

root i9192 kitkat
Ever since the Android 4.4 KitKat update, many questions have been asked in the YouTube channel, Google+ and Facebook pages about rooting the Galaxy S4 mini Duos (GT-I9192) as well as installing the CWM Recovery so now you can find all the answers to your questions in this post.

If you have already tried rooting your Galaxy S4 mini duos using the old method which requires you to replace your existing kernel with an insecure one first, you probably ended up being in a bad situation such as a bootloop. This is because you are trying to put a kernel based off Jelly Bean onto KitKat.

Also please keep in mind that the downloads included in this post are strictly meant for the GT-I9192 model only. You can check the Rooting category for guides on how to root the GT-I9190 and GT-I9195 (just make sure that the post begins with "(KitKat)" otherwise it is meant for Jelly Bean and you should not try it!).

Pre-requisites:

    Rooting GT-I9192 running KitKat:

    1. Download the CF-Auto-Root + Odin package to your computer.
    2. Download the recovery package as well.
    3. Extract the CF-Auto-Root as well as the recovery zip files.
    4. Inside the CF-Auto-Root folder you should see Odin along with required files as well as a .tar.md5 file.
    5. Power off your phone and then begin holding the Volume down + Home + Power buttons together. Once you enter Download mode, press the Volume up button to have it say "Downloading..."
    6. Now connect it to your computer and start the Odin program
    7. In the Odin program, click on the PDA button and choose the .tar.md5 file that you got with the package.
    8. Click on the Start button and wait for the procedure to finish. After it is done, your phone should automatically reboot.
    9. Now repeat steps 5-6 and this time in the PDA field choose the recovery .tar.md5 file and click on Start.
    10. Your phone will once again reboot and you should have root access as well as a custom recovery installed.
That's pretty much it. If you are looking for a way to root GT-I9195 you may check out this post.

Galaxy S5 Notification screen for Galaxy S4 mini

    s4 mini s5 notification screen
Since the old S5 notification screen/quick toggles theme is not working on the new Samsung KitKat firmware anymore, it's about time we found another method to achieve this kind of look. Many people have asked in the comments why they don't see any changes in their KitKat firmware after flashing the above package and well, the answer is that in the old Jelly Bean firmware the graphics were fetched from .PNG files whilst KitKat fetches them from files with a .SPI extension - files that cannot be opened and edited with programs such as Paint or Photoshop.

In this new method we will be using the Xposed framework and two modules without replacing any system files. This means that whenever you get tired of this look you can revert back to your old notification screen within a few seconds without the need to restore nandroid backups or flashing a whole stock firmware package all over again. Huge thanks to our fellow visitor

    Pre-requisites:

    Getting the S5 look

    1. Download and install the Xposed Framework and reboot your device.
    2. Download and install S5 SystemUI Theme and Wanam Xposed modules.
    3. Now follow the steps shown in the video below to get the S5 notification screen look-a-like.

Ever since the release of Android 4.4.2 KitKat for the GT-I9190 there have been many questions being posted on the website, YouTube channel as well as the Facebook and Google+ pages about rooting and installing a custom recovery. The LTE and Duos already have foolproof rooting methods and now it's time we get one for the 3G.

If you have already tried rooting your Galaxy S4 mini 3G using the old method which requires you to replace your existing kernel with an insecure one first, you probably ended up being in a bad situation such as a bootloop. This is because you are trying to put a kernel based off Jelly Bean onto KitKat.

That's pretty much it. Your GT-I9190 should now be rooted and you should have the custom CWM Recovery installed and working as well.

Since the last published S5 icon pack had some small issues such as a few oversized icons in certain areas, many of you were eagerly waiting for an update with such issues being resolved. Unfortunately, I am not that experienced in theming and the whole graphics scene, so I am presenting you the WizzedTheme made by xda member rrgrrg who has done a way better job.

Just like the old S5 icon pack that was published here a few months ago, WizzedTheme is also just a zip file that replaces your system apps' PNG files with the S5 ones giving you the S5 look. Since this package does not replace any actual apk files or anything else important, it is considered safe for flashing.

Please note that this only works in 4.2.2 Jelly Bean based firmwares. Due to the fact that the new KitKat firmware uses files with a .SPI extension, flashing this package will not replace a single icon.

      What this theme includes:

      • S5 Weather Widget
      • S5 Launcher
      • S5 Voice recorder
      • S5 My Files Subicons
      • S5 Lockscreen Effect
      • S5 Apps Icons
      • S5 Full Framework
      • S5 Sms App Partial Port
      • S5 Dialer and Contacts
      • S5 Music Player Ported
      • S5 Video Player Ported
      • S5 Dark Flat Keyboard ported
      • S5 Camera ported
      • S5 Calculator
      • S5 Wallpaper Chooser wallpapers
      • S5 Statusbar and UI
This theme is available to use for both single-SIM and dual-SIM phones. rrgrrg has also included the themed weather widget as well as a single icon pack for those of you who do not with to get the whole S5 UI but just the new app icons.

      Downloads:

      Single-SIM package - Click here.
      Dual-SIM package - Click here.
      Icons only - Click here.
      Weather Widget - Click here.

      Installation:

      1. Download the package of your choice to your sdcard.
      2. Power off your phone and boot into CWM Recovery.
      3. Go to advanced and choose wipe dalvik cache.
      4. Go back and choose install zip.
      5. Choose choose zip from external sdcard (choose zip from /storage/sdcard1/ in newer CWM Recovery versions).
      6. Choose the downloaded zip file.
      7. Choose Yes to confirm when asked.
      8. After the installation of the zip file is complete, go back and choose reboot system now.
      9. Upon reboot, you should get a message "Android is upgrading" and below it "Opitimizing apps # of #". Be patient and wait until it is done optimizing.

Here is a decently modified Samsung TouchWiz firmware by xda member SilviuMik quite similar to the deodexed stock firmwares series for GT-I9195 except this one is not actually deodexed but still offers very neat features and modifications.

In this package, you will find a stock firmware that comes pre-rooted, has all the KNOX applications removed so that you won't be getting any annoying notifications, enabled sd card writing, as well as some kernel tweaks as Samsung has finally released the KitKat sources. For a full list of this firmware and its kernel features, check out the list below.

      Features:

      • Pre-rooted with SuperSU v2.02 thanks to Chainfire
      • Custom Kernel compiled by SilviuMik from Samsung KitKat sources
      • Battery drain in deep sleep patches included
      • OnDemand CPU governor
      • No-Op I/O scheduler
      • Knox removed from source files credit to F4k
      • Ramdisk modified and knox related stuff removed / SELinux Permisive
      • Compiled with Linaro GCC 4.7.4-2014.04 credits to Christopher83
      • Modified platform.xml to allow writing to external sd-card
      • Modified build.prop with battery optimization and knox related stuff removed
      • Removed Knox apps / containers
      • Removed new bootloader with Knox
      Download - Click here.

      Warning:

If you have the KNOX bootloader installed, flashing this firmware will trip the KNOX flag to 0x1 which leads to a void warranty.

      Installation:

      1. Download Odin 3.10
      2. Make sure you don't have the new bootloader (In Download mode you should not see text such as:
      3. Knox Kernel Lock: 0x0 or 0x1 / Knox Warranty Void 0x0 or 0x1)
      4. Download an older rom that does not contain Knox (e.g. *****MH2) for example.
      5. Flash it with Odin two or three times until you get in download mode Current Binary: Samsung Official / System Status: Official.
      6. Check if your baseband has changed to MH2.
      7. Factory reset your phone from recovery mode and DO NOT let it boot, enter Download mode. (When you choose reboot system now, immediatelly begin holding the Volume down and Home buttons together).
      8. Flash the rom with Odin as you normally flash a stock firmware.

While most of you may be satisfied with the Galaxy S4 mini's speaker volume, some may be disappointed and would like to boost it up a bit. In certain situations such as in parties with loud music and noise, you may not be able to hear your phone's ringtone if you have disabled vibration or if you have a song whose volume is below normal, you may want to listen to it louder on your music player.

        boost s4 mini volume
For these kind of frustrating situations comes this volume sound boosting mod from the developer of the popular WizzedTheme, rrgrrg. Now of course you can also use a sound mod such as Viper4Android but that mod only covers the music player and nothing else while this mod actually helps you increase the overall sound volume for your ringtones, notifications and system sounds.

This mod will boost your volume values up to 50% and headphones values up to 80%. According to rrgrrg, this mod seems to be working on both 4.2.2 and 4.4.2 firmwares for the Galaxy S4 mini and the only requirement left is to have a custom recovery installed.

        Disclaimer:

Use this mod with caution! While this is proven to not cause any damage to the phone's speakers, be careful of how much you increase your phone's volume as anything is possible to happen. S4MiniArchive and the developer will not be responsible for any damages caused. Flash and use this at your own risk!

        Download - Click here.

        Installation:

        1. Download the zip file to your sdcard.
        2. Boot into Recovery mode by holding Volume up + Home + Power buttons together.
        3. Choose install zip.
        4. Choose choose zip from /storage/sdcard/1/ (choose zip from external sdcard for older recoveries).
        5. Choose the zip file then choose Yes to confirm.
        6. After you are done, go back and choose reboot system now.
Immediatelly after rebooting your phone you will notice an increase in the sound volume. To control it, simply go to Settings -> My Device -> Sound -> Volume.

Galaxy S5 Internet Browser for Galaxy S4 mini

            0
Coming next to our Galaxy S5 transformation is the Internet Browser application. which was recently ported by xda member Albe95. The application seems to work just fine on the Galaxy S4 mini running the new KitKat firmware and may even work on other Samsung devices with this new firmware as well. Most likely the app will not work on Jelly Bean firmwares though due to some framework changes made by Samsung.

After personally testing the app I have come to the conclusion that it's awesome and is working just fine on the Galaxy S4 mini. You do not only get a similar design as this is not a theme, but you actually get the features that it could offer since we are installing the whole app.

Download Galaxy S5 Internet Browser - Click here.

            Installation:

                1. Download the S-Browser.zip file to your sd card and extract it.
                2. Inside, you should see a folder System and inside it two folders: system and lib.
                3. Open up a root browsing tool such as Root Explorer and go to /system/app/ and delete the four files: SBrowser.apk, SBrowser.odex, SBrowserTry.apk, SBrowserTry.odex.
                4. Now copy/move the SBrowser.apk, SBrowser.odex, SBrowserTry.apk, SBrowserTry.odex files
from the extracted folder to /system/app/.
                5. Change the four files' permissions to rw--r--r--.
                6. Now go back to the extracted folder and go to the lib folder.
                7. Copy the files libbrowser.so and libbrowser_ext.so from there into /system/lib/.
                8. Once again, set the two files' permissions to rw--r--r--.
                9. Reboot your phone and do not run the app yet.
                10. Go to Settings -> More... -> Application manager -> All - and look for the app Internet.
                11. Tap on clear data and exit the screen.
                12. Now run the Browser app and enjoy

Coming up next in our Galaxy S5 transformation is the FM Radio App. For now the name of the person who has ported this app is unknown (if it ever needed porting) or it could actually be xda member adityapal who has published the apk file in the forums.

The app seems to be working just fine (is able to scan for radio stations and can play them without any issues) and is even able to record radio. The generated file comes with a .m4a extension that is not visible in the music player but you can find lots of online file converters that can turn it into mp3.

Download Galaxy S5 FM Radio - Click here.

                0
Since a lot of you reported a higher battery drain in the new KitKat firmware (some have even noticed the same problem in the old Jelly Bean), you can now try out this custom kernel compiled by xda member TheBootloader for the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini LTE (GT-I9195) which may just solve some of your drain problems.

What this kernel aims is system stability, a boost in the speed, less battery drain and of course some additional features such as USB OTG support, BLN and others. Also this kernel does not come bloated with random governors and schedulers but only a few select ones by the developer that he finds the most useful.

This kernel is also offered in two variants - Jelly Bean and KitKat. So for those of you who still haven't upgraded to KitKat, you may also give this kernel a try. The features of the custom Jelly Bean kernel are pretty much the same as in the KitKat one.

                Version 1 & 2 changelogs:

                • Added OTG support (Not working yet)
                • Removed TIMA Change to XZ compression
                • Added BLN support (Not working yet)
                • Added battery drain patches
                • Optimize kernel for speed, not size
                • Preparation for init.d support
                • Permissive SELinux

                Future plans:

                • Add proper Prima WLAN driver - So we don't rely on the stock kernel-module (This restricts which kernel options I can change)
                • Add a few more optimizations
                • Busybox Version?
                • Add init.d
                • Pre-rooted version?

                Installation:

                1. Before you attempt to flash the custom kernel, be sure that you are using a custom recovery such as CWM Recovery, TWRP or PhilZ and not the stock recovery.
                2. Download the kernel zip file according to your Android version in to your sd card.
                3. Boot into Recovery mode by holding Volume up + Home + Power buttons together.
                4. Choose install zip.
                5. Choose choose from external sdcard (choose zip from /storage/sdcard1/ if you have a newer version of CWM Recovery).
                6. Select the kernel zip file and choose it Choose Yes to confirm when asked.
                7. After the installation is complete, go back and choose reboot system now.
If you are having problems with the custom kernel you can revert back to a stock one at any time by flashing one of the following: Jelly Bean stock and KitKat stock.

If you have tried out the ported Galaxy S5 music player on your S4 mini, you may have experienced some bugs where the player would crash if you attempt to open certain options/settings and we obviously want our things to work flawlessly, right?

Well your problems have now been solved as xda member and author of the popular Wizzed Theme rgrrg has released this awesome dark Galaxy S5 music player theme for those of you who like Samsung's improved UI.

Just like the Wizzed Theme, this package only replaces certain images of your actual music player app and nothing else, so it is considered 100% safe to flash as it will do no harm. Also please keep in mind that this is meant for the new KitKat firmware as the image files in this package are with the .SPI extension and not the old .PNG which Jelly Bean's app images were based off.

                s5 apps port
So here we are finally getting to try out pretty much all of the Galaxy S5 apps on the Galaxy S4 mini. This project started off as an attempt to port the S5 settings app along with its lockscreen effects but eventually started to expand to something much, much better.

Samsung Galaxy S4 mini getting Android 4.4.4 KitKat in November

                  0
Just when we thought we wouldn't be getting any new firmware updates after the long awaited Android 4.4.2, out of nowhere comes this little leaked document in which you see the Galaxy S4 mini included in an update queue for the last version of KitKat - 4.4.4

According to the document, the Galaxy S4 mini 3G and Duos are pending to receive the 4.4.4 KitKat update in November. Now what's interesting here is that we do not see the LTE model included on the list - the same case as in the last leak except there is was the Duos model that was missing. But regardless that it was excluded from the list, it still got the firmware update.

If you remember the last leaked document regarding the first KitKat update, it was scheduled for June and it really did get rolled out in June so let's hope this new leaked document will be accurate as well and not a fake.

That's all the news for now. Be sure to check the website, Facebook or Google+ pages daily for any new updates.

While we are still waiting for an official 4.4.4 KitKat update from Samsung, our beloved developers have already begun working with the new Android 5.0 Lollipop sources. Just a few hours ago, recognized xda developer F4k has compiled and released an unofficial build of CyanogenMod12 which is based off the latest Android version 5.0

As of now there are builds available to flash for the GT-I9190 and GT-I9195, with no news for the Duos (GT-I9192) model yet. At first, the developer had some small issues getting the RIL (Radio Interface Layer) to work which is what handles the connectivity between your phone and the SIM card to establish connections with your carrier. Thankfully that issue is resolved and the only issue remaining is getting the camera to work. The camera is now also working and the download links have been updated.

When we got our first unofficial build of CyanogenMod12 from recognized xda developer f4k, many of you Duos users were probably upset because of the fact that it was only ported for the GT-I9190 and GT-I9195 models.

Recently, an xda developer that goes by the name k2wl has compiled a build for the GT-I9192 as well and most of the important features appear to be working just fine according to the developer and some user reviews.

Korean Galaxy S4 mini gets Android 4.4.4 KitKat update [UPDATED WITH SCREENIES]

                      0
Back in October there was this leaked sheet that contained important information regarding a few of Samsung's Galaxy devices firmware updates to Android 4.4.4 KitKat. Inside the list we also saw the Galaxy S4 mini 3G and Duos (surpringly LTE was not on the list).

However, out of all these three models, the Korean variant of the S4 mini LTE has managed to grab the update first before everyone else, upgrading straight from 4.2.2 to 4.4.4.

A xda forum member named ThuGzta who managed to succesfully update the phone to 4.4.4 via Kies had this to say:

I updated it to Kitkat 4.4.4. and its working pretty good. I have seen the battery performance is better, the phone isn't heating up as much as it used too. The interface is pretty good too. Had to use KIES to get the update, I dont think they (KOREAN S4) are doing the OTA thing. Overall the whole update seems to be pleasing. Haven't noticed any bugs yet, the phone definitely is faster with this update. (I have directly come from 4.2.2 JB). IF I find bugs I would let the thread know.
We have contacted the forum member above to provide us with some screenshots of the update. Be sure to check this post for any updates on the matter.

                      UPDATE: Screenshots have been provided.
                      Credits:ThuGzta

No changes to the UI appear to have been made, unfortunately.

If you happen to have purchased your phone at Korea, or your S4 model name is simply SHV-E370K, you may head to the firmware download page and flash it.

This firmware is for SHV-E370K! If you are going to flash it, please check for your model name by going into Settings -> More -> About phone.

The official nightly builds of CyanogenMod12 have finally started to become available to the public for various devices and the Galaxy S4 mini is one of them thanks to xda member arco68 who used to maintain CM10, CM10.1, CM10.2, and CM11.

This news has put F4k's public builds for the 3G and LTE models at rest. In his last reply before he requested that his thread gets locked, he said the following:
Well, I'm closing this thread now that CM12 will roll out very soon and 'cause @arco68 should create an Official thread for CM12.
Thanks so much to all you guys, I'll still building private builds for my personal use
As usual, we do not see serranodsdd (Duos) in the official CM12 downloads page, but we are guessing that xda member k2wl will continue on releasing new unofficial builds for the Duos model.

For every new Galaxy model that Samsung releases with UI changes, xda users immediatelly begin to rip the apks or at least create similar looking modded apks. In this case, we have a XWidget theme shared by xda member kokobenjamin. and according to the credits huge thanks also goes to xda member Aatif who is the first to create the theme.

As you can see in the image above, Samsung have gotten rid of the huge 4x2 background styled weather widget that covers half of your wallpaper and moved onto a transparent styled one.

Until the actual weather widget gets ported, you will have use XWidget and apply this as a theme on it. XWidget is available for free download at the Play Store.

Download S6 Weather theme - Click here.

                        Installation:

                        1. Download XWidget from the Google Play store.
                        2. Download the theme zip file from the link above.
                        3. Extract the zip file and move the extracted folder into /sdcard0/XWidget/Widgets/ (sdcard0 means your internal storage).
                        4. Now go to your homescreen and add a 4x1 XWidget, then choose Galaxy S6 Weather Widget.
                        5. Enjoy your new S6 Weather widget.

P.S. An official article and in-depth video review of the S5 Project rom should have been posted quite a while ago but was delayed due to the fact that the latest version (3.1) has some pretty nasty bugs such as the white text on white background and vice versa issues.

It is now expected for a v4 to be out. No information when that will happen though. If any news comes out, it will be posted on the S4MA Google+ and Facebook pages.
